About Eric Michel by Dominique Fabre

Eric Michel gives us to see a multifaceted work, whether light installations, street signs diverted, video, where comes to emerge without bringing back the spirit of childhood, that is to say a very simple and pure form of wonder. He also makes paintings, reprocessed photographs, paintings and collages, recomposed residues of the old papers of the world, composites boxes of everyday life. Whenever I look at his already abundant work I say to myself: hey, he is here the world, that’s it. I really like this artist’s eagerness to share with us, as from the inside of the impersonal, those emotions so dense and rarely expressed, or the quality of the silence that sometimes seizes us, in front of a window, or opposite – it’s not easy to be in front! – of a light being born, and patiently waiting for us, to illuminate .. ourselves probably.

Eric Michel is interested in the source of our eyes. There will no doubt be here, in Draguignan, for each of you, as everywhere where he exhibits his works, a place or a work of which you will not easily detach the eyes, or who will accompany you as you dream, when you close them. A meditation for your eyes, an anchor. I am also sensitive to the opening of his works to the world, to their traveling dimension, from Asia to New York, so far. It is because everywhere he moves with him that acute and very gentle gaze, who is he, artist, on the light: how do we live and how does it shelter us, how also does it hide from us what surrounds us and that we rediscover, our life.
